VAT Relief

If a product is eligible for VAT relief, we show two prices on our website. One is the lower price you pay if you claim VAT relief. The other includes VAT and is the price you pay if you’re not eligible. Most of our customers buy products made for people with a disability or long-term illness, so they can claim VAT relief and pay the lower price.

Not all of the products we sell have been specifically designed for people with a disability or long-term illness. If the manufacturer or UK distributor hasn’t confirmed this, we cannot offer VAT relief on that product. In these cases, we only show the price including VAT on our website.

VAT relief is a government scheme that removes the need to pay VAT on certain products. HM Revenue and Customs sets out the conditions when equipment for disabled people might be free of VAT and how to claim exemption from paying VAT on these products.

Products a can only be exempt from VAT when all the following conditions are met:

• The customer is eligible to purchase supplies at the zero rate
• The goods are for the personal or domestic use of the customer
• The goods and services are eligible to be supplied at the zero rate

Yes, if the product you are buying is for the personal and domestic (home) use of someone who has a disability or long term illness, you can buy the product for them and submit a VAT relief declaration on their behalf. You will need to provide the user's name and address and reason for the VAT relief claim. You should have their consent to do this.

You can claim VAT relief if you have a disability or long-term illness and the product is for your personal use. VAT relief only applies to products that are eligible to be sold without VAT.

The process of claiming VAT relief is simple. You just need to fill out a short form with the name, address, and condition of the person with a disability or long-term illness. You can do this during checkout on our website. If you order by phone, we’ll send you a link to the form by email, or if requested, we can post you a printed copy with a pre-paid return envelope.

The products that are eligible for VAT relief are shown on our website with a VAT Relief badge and the price with and without VAT will be displayed. It is the manufacturer of the goods who is able to determine whether the goods are designed solely for use by a disabled person, not Manage At Home as the retailer.

We do not decide which products are eligible for VAT relief to be claimed when purchasing them. We do not make any more or less profit whether we charge you VAT or not.

The details that are provided for your VAT relief claim declaration are recorded through our secure website and are not shared with anyone else. Only HM Revenue and Customs can ask to see these forms if they request to do so when auditing our compliance with these processes. If this happens they are shared securely with the Government only.

We cannot offer you VAT relief if you do not complete the declaration form in full and provide detail for your claim that we can reasonably judge describes a disability or long term illness to confirm your eligibility. A person is ‘disabled or who has a long term illness’ if they are a person with a:

• physical or mental impairment which has a long-term and substantial adverse effect on their ability to carry out everyday activities
• condition which the medical profession treats as a chronic sickness, such as diabetes

It does not include an elderly person who is not disabled or has not got a long term illness or any person who’s only temporarily disabled or incapacitated, such as with a broken limb.
